BBN Exclusive - Thompson steps in for title shot

by Kevin Taylor
Jun 27th 2007
Manchester's Mark Thompson has been handed a great chance to gatecrash the World ratings after Jamie Moore was forced to pull out of his WBC international title fight with Vincent Vuma, due to a viral infection.

The twenty-six year old, who is 11-0, will now step up to the plate and box the South African for the WBC International title after turning down the chance to fight Vuma over eight rounds.

"Why would I want to fight an eight rounder when I can fight for a title", said Thompson.

"Let me take the opportunity to take Jamie Moore's place, I have nothing to lose and everything to gain." added Thompson who stopped Manocha Salari in the first round last time out in April.

It will be a big step up in class for the unbeaten prospect Thompson, as Vuma is rated at number 22 by the WBC and brings a record of 22-2 to the ring with nine wins on the trot, he also holds the South African title at light-middlweight.

On the undercard Craig Watson and unbeaten Michael Lomax's fight has also now been upgraded to an eight rounder on the undercard.

Moore's withdrawal comes just a day after it was announced that Martin Power has pulled out his British title defence, Ian Napa has stepped in to fill the top of the bill slot against Jason Booth for the now vacant bantamweight title.
