Three title fights at Hope and Glory Show

by British Boxing
Aug 17th 2007
Three top-quality title fights will top next month's Hope and Glory show at the ICC in Birmingham that will bring together more British-born world champions than any show previously.

Promoter PJ Rowson revealed that more than twenty World champions have confirmed their attendance at the show on September 15 that will commemorate Battle of Britain Day.

He added that twenty more tables have been made available priced at £1,500 each and those that snap up the tickets will see a pair of the sport's rising stars in title action.

Unbeaten pair Mark Lloyd and Martin Gethin are part of the flourishing First Team stable in Wednesbury and both face the toughest tests of their careers.

Telford hope Lloyd already holds the Midlands Area light-middleweight and targets a second title in just his ninth professional fight when he squares up to Adnan Amar for the vacant English light-middleweight title.

Amar's record shows only one defeat in 18 fights and the slippery Nottingham boxer is determined to take another belt back to the Ingles gym in Sheffield that has produced world champions Junior Witter and Johnny Nelson.

Lloyd's stablemate Martin Gethin also bids to become a double champion when he meets Craig Johnson from Clay Cross in Derbyshire for the vacant Midlands Area lightweight title.

Gethin is unbeaten in nine fights (one draw) and won the vacant British Masters belt with a spectacular third-round stoppage of Judex Meemea last November.

Walsall hope Gethin will be aiming to reverse an amateur defeat he suffered against Johnson, who has won seven of his eight fights since switching to the paid ranks.

Billy Smith and Baz Carey clash for the Midlands Area light-welterweight title on the same bill.

Smith outpointed the Coventry scrapper to win the title in a sensational scrap in March and the fight will be their fourth meeting. Carey – the only British boxer to last the distance with Amir Khan as a professional – has won twice and the other bout was a no-contest.

Further details are available from PJ Rowson on 0797-6283157.
