Hughes gets Kirkorov on own show by Tom Walker Oct 26th 2007

Barry Hughes, the Braveheart Promotions Supremo, is on a mission to add to his collection of boxing titles (he's a promoter, manager and boxer, and holds licences for all three), by taking on Kirkor Kirkorov of Bulgaria for the vacant WBU Inter-continental lightweight title on the top of the bill on his own promotional venture on the 16th November at the Kelvin Hall, Glasgow. As the only Briton to hold all three licences at the same time, he's now taking a further step by promoting his own Championship bout! With a slate that shows 17 wins (10 inside the distance) and only 2 losses and 1 draw from the twenty bouts since his debut in 1998, he should have the credentials to achieve his goal. However, he's had only one solitary bout in the last 3 years, a points win over Baz Carey almost a year ago, and Kirkorov (who's a former 3 weight Bulgarian champion) has been reasonably active during that time, though it has to be said that Kevin Mitchell stopped the Bulgarian in two rounds in the York Hall for the IBF version of the same Inter-continental strap. Hughes should get his wish, and if he connects properly, via the short route! The undercard features Kenny Anderson, Kris Karslaw, Stephen Russell, Marco Cittadini and the pro debut of Jason Hastie, so expect a large contingent of glamour in the venerable hall.
