Danny Wallace, currently being groomed for a potential New Year British title shot by promoter Frank Maloney, marks time in a non-title bout on December 8th at Wigan.
The Leeds super-bantam will duke it out with an as yet unconfirmed opponent on the undercard to Jamie Moore's European title challenge to Ukranian Zaurbek Baysangurov.
Wallace, a natural super-bantam, is often required to fight bigger men to remain active, but will be hoping to pick on someone his own size in Wigan. “Guys like Sean Hughes and Argie Ward can get the Neil Marston, Delroy Spencer journeymen type to keep busy against, but for some reason these small guys don't want to fight me,” said the hard-hitting contender.
“Last time out I fought at lightweight (three divisions up from his natural poundage) against Dwayne Hill just to keep active.”
Providing he keeps winning, with a number six ranking from the British Boxing Board of Control, it's conceivable that Wallace, a brother of British super-featherweight king Carl Johanneson, could feature in title action in 2008 with the either the British or Commonwealth title being realistic targets.
