Commonwealth champion Amir Khan insists that he will fight Jon Thaxton for the British and Commonwealth titles, as long as the promoters can fix the fight.
Khan, who will meet Dane Martin Kristjansen on February 2nd at the ExCel Arena, is the mandatory challenger for Thaxton's British title while Thaxton is mandatory for the Commonwealth title held by Khan. The BBBoC have called for purse bids to be submitted by tomorrow, 9th January, at midday.
Khan said: “I would love to fight for the British title, I am never going to say no. If I ever get the chance to fight for it I will never turn it down.
“I am a bit surprised that it did not happen for this fight, I would love to fight Jon Thaxton just to shut him up, there have been people in the past who have said they will beat me but it has never happened.
"I think I was ready for him and my style suits him, but I might be moving too quickly and never get the chance because I might have the chance for a World Title.
“I want to fight and beat everyone in the division and I think it is a fight that the British public want to see and I think it would be a good fight. It could happen but it's down to the promoters.
Meanwhile promoter Frank Warren was quick to play down any chance of a meeting between the pair, "We offered good money to Thaxton to take the fight but he has priced himself out of the contest, no way Jon Thaxton is a £300,000 fighter. We will have the 2nd February fight and then sit down to discuss the next move for Amir."
