The first defence of the 'Aberdeen Assassin', Lee McAllister's W.B.U. lightweight title may not now be against Michael Gomez.
Rumours have been circulating in the Central belt and Manchester that Gomez would not be boxing on the 29th March in the Aberdeen Exhibition & Conference Centre.
The change of opponent, should that occur, will not worry the Aberdonian one iota, and whomsoever he faces will still have to venture into the Lion's den.
It is a pity though that Gomez seems destined not to show, as he's a character and would have undoubtedly been McAllister's biggest test by far.
I'd sent an e-mail to the WBU headquarters in Cambridgeshire yesterday to seek clarification on Gomez, but to no avail.
I've no doubt that they will come up with someone to share the bill topping title bout, but will he have the cache of Gomez? I doubt it, and in any event the Aberdeen public and Lee McAllister deserve to see someone challenge the “Assassin” that has more credentials than some of his opponents' thus far.
