Andreas Kotelnik ready for another shot at WBA title.

by Kevin Taylor
Mar 18th 2008

Andreas Kotelnik the current number one ranked light-welterweight by the WBA will come to Britain for the second time as mandatory challenger for the WBA when he challenges Gavin Rees in Cardiff on Saturday.

Kotelnik, 28-2-1, originally from the Ukraine but boxing out of Hamburg wants to fulfil his dream and become World champion. Kotelnik seemed unlucky only to get a draw in his title fight with Souleymane M'Baye in Liverpool in March 2007. Mickey Vann had Kotelnik winning by five rounds.

“In that fight it appeared too many boxing experts and fans that I won the fight, and I would have been World champion but the British judges saw it differently.

“The WBA still rate me as number one in their ratings and mandatory challenger for the title.

“I have been training in Solden in Austria and that went great and I'm in perfect shape for this fight.

“Against Rees I want to demonstrate that I'm the best and I'm hoping for fair scoring from the judges.

“My faith in God makes me even stronger and God will stand by me in this very important fight. I will win with God's help.

Rees pulled off a huge shock when he defeated Frenchman and former WBA light-welterweight champion M'Baye in July 2007 in Cardiff when he claimed the title by unanimous decision.

Setanta Sports will have live coverage of this fight on Saturday night.
