McGuigan is once again the name on fights fans' lips and it's not Barry this time but his son Shane.
The Clones welterweight is causing a stir in the amateur world after a convincing knockout win over James Ferrin at the Ulster Seniors in the Belfast Dockers club. The win earned him a crack at Dungloe fighter Cathal McCauley in the finals, which take place at Andersonstown Leisure Centre.
All the major clubs will be represented including Immaculata, Holy Trinity, Holy Family and Oliver Plunkett. The lightweight final between Anthony Cacace and Stephen Donnelly might turn out to be pick of the bunch, as future Olympian Paddy Barnes and heavyweight hope Cathal McMonagle also feature.
As previously mentioned, Eddie Hyland and Kevin O'Hara will fight out a rematch for the Irish super-featherweight title in Tallaght Basketball Centre, Dublin on 12July. Former European super-bantamweight champion Bernard Dunne is rumoured to be involved as a possible show headliner.
Also on that bill, Jamie Moore will appear as he sharpens up for a crack at European light-middleweight king Zaurbek Baysangurov. Moore bids for Ciaran Healy's national title at the same weight and is afforded the chance at the belt through Irish parentage.
Former world bantamweight champion Wayne McCullough was in the news this week after he administered emergency CPR on an elderly woman in mid-flight! After fellow passengers apparently ignored her cries for help, McCullough jumped over his wife and daughter to come to the rescue.
He had been travelling from America to Canada on business, relating to his PR job for the UFC organisation when the incident occurred.
