Former British welterweight champion Neil Sinclair failed to wrestle the EU title away from hometown hero Daniele Petrucci on Saturday night, losing a 12 round decision in Rome.
The scores were unanimous, reading 116-112 (twice) and 117-113.
New York based Irish light-middleweight James Moore suffered his first loss as a professional, dropping an eight-round decision to Gabriel Rosado in Brooklyn last Wednesday night (4th June). Moore hit the canvas and was close to getting stopped mid-fight but battled through before conceding by scores of 78-73, 77-74, and 76-74.
Brian Peters' bill on the 12th July in Dublin is filling out nicely, with Jim Rock announcing a surprise comeback to face Jonjo Finnegan. Rock has been out for over a year and is seen regularly working the mic on RTE studio commentary. He is attempting to claim the Irish title at light-heavyweight and is joined on the bill by Oisin Fagan as he warms up for a possible clash with Andrew Murray, who also features.
Murray will bid for Peter McDonagh's Irish lightweight title. Promising duo Keith Cresham and Ian Tims are scheduled, as is Darren Corbett as he launches a comeback.
Bernard Dunne tops the bill with Matthew Macklin v Willie Gibbs as joint support.
A week earlier on 5th July, Tommy Egan's show in Tallaght will be televised by Irish station TV3. Martin Rogan meanwhile could be off that bill as he opts instead for a clash with Audley Harrison.
Cork manager Gary Hyde promoted in the sunny climes of Spain on Saturday 7th June as his Cuban heavyweight prospect Mike Perez was scheduled to meet Romanian hardman Adrian Niculae over six rounds.
Former Neil Sinclair opponent Juan Martinez Bas headlined and there was some local interest as Belfast referee David Irving travelled to control the Perez bout.
Prior to the event, he told the Irish News, “It is a great opportunity. I am absolutely delighted they (the BBBC) approved me for this.”
The opening Irish Boxing Supporters Club meeting at the Dockers Club on Thursday 31st May was a success, with a healthy turnout and a guest appearance from Neil Sinclair, who brought his Lonsdale belt along.
There was a raffle for a glove signed by Andy Lee which was luckily won by yours truly!
