It has been reported that Frank Warren is to take legal action against his former boxer Joe Calzaghe for breach of contract.
The Sun newspaper says that Warren is claiming Calzaghe owes him at least £1m and has lodged a writ with the High Court.
35-year-old Calzaghe dumped long-term promoter Warren last month and he and fellow global boxing star Roy Jones Jr plan on promoting their own showdown on a date yet to be confirmed.
Calzaghe had boxed for Warren since January 1997.
On binning Warren, Calzaghe told his local newspaper the South Wales Argus in June, "I am now a free agent without a contract and intend to be self managed from now on. I am the only person who can make negotiations for my next fight."
The boxer did, however, indicate that there were issues to be resolved with Warren and he hoped this could be done amicably. Apparently this has not been the case.
In April, Warren said he would like to work with Calzaghe even after the Welshman retired.
"Joe can become a partner at Sports Network. I am very serious about what I am saying."
The promoter often uses the courts to seek redress and is currently undertaking action against Random House publishers in connection with a biography of Ricky Hatton.
Indeed, on 17th July a headline proudly boasted on Sports Network's website 'Warren lands further blow to libel case'.
However, there is no mention yet on the website of any legal action against Calzaghe.
Warren would neither confirm nor deny the story this morning and had no comment to make.
After everything that Warren has delivered, if it goes to court, I hope Warren wins. There's an old saying in boxing, ' if you want loyalty buy a dog'.
