Kevin McIntyre will have the opportunity to win back his British welterweight title when he faces Kell Brook at the Aston Events Centre in Birmingham on October 31.
Sports Network won the right to promote the contest after submitting a winning purse bid of £35,250.00 at the British Boxing Board of Control's head office in Cardiff yesterday.
Sheffield's Brook captured the vacant Lonsdale Belt by halting Barrie Jones in seven rounds at the York Hall in London after Paisley native McIntyre was controversially stripped of his title in June as the back injury he suffered prevented him making a mandatory defence against Brook.
McIntyre said: “I'm delighted to get a date so I can focus my preparation. Everything is back in my own hands again because I am still two wins away from winning the Lonsdale Belt outright.
“The only difference now is that I am the challenger, but once the bell goes it doesn't matter who is the champion and who is the challenger.
“I won't mind fighting in Birmingham because it looks good on my resume if I can travel away from home and recapture my title. I have made a financial loss as a result of being stripped of my title as I only get 40% of the purse as the challenger, but I will use that as extra motivation for this fight.”
