McDermott likely to get another shot at Williams by Kevin Taylor Aug 14th 2008

After their controversial fight in July, the Board of Control have called for purse bids for a rematch between Danny Williams and John McDermott for the British heavyweight title. Williams retained the title despite being deducted three points by referee Dave Parris last time out at the Goresbrook Leisure Centre in Dagenham. There is a Scottish theme to a few of the British titles that have been proposed at Super-Middleweight Steven McGuire has been nominated to fight champion Carl Froch, Jamie Coyle gets a shot at Ryan Rhodes' light-middleweight title in September and the Aberdeen Assassin Lee McAllister has been nominated for John Murray's lightweight title. CRUISERWEIGHT (Vacant) ROB NORTON v MICKEY STEEDS This contest to be promoted by Barry Hearn will now take place on Friday, 3rd October 2008 at the Wolverhampton Civic Hall. LIGHT HEAVYWEIGHT DEAN FRANCIS (Holder) v NATHAN CLEVERLY The Stewards of the Board approved an application from Promoter Frank Warren for the above voluntary defence by Champion Francis to take place at the Everton Park, Liverpool on Friday, 10th October 2008. SUPER MIDDLEWEIGHT CARL FROCH (Holder) v STEVEN McGUIRE Purse bids are called for the above contest to be submitted, in accordance with the Terms and Conditions attached, to the Board's Head Office by 12.00.midday, Wednesday, 10th September 2008, the contest to take place by the end of December 2008. LIGHT MIDDLEWEIGHT RYAN RHODES (Holder) v JAMIE COYLE The Stewards of the Board approved an application from Promoter David Coldwell for the above voluntary defence by Champion Rhodes to take place at the Hillsborough Leisure Centre, Sheffield on Saturday, 20th September 2008. WELTERWEIGHT KELL BROOK (Holder) v KEVIN McINTYRE Following the opening of purse bids by the Chairman at 12.00.noon, Wednesday, 13th August 2008 the inning bid was submitted by Promoter Frank Warren for the contest to take place at the Aston Villa Events Centre, Birmingham on Friday, 31st October 2008. Eliminators MARK THOMPSON v TONY DOHERTY Following the withdrawal of Tony Doherty from the above proposed contest the call for purse bids scheduled to be opened at 12.00.noon on Wednesday, 13th August 2008 was postponed. YOUNG MUTLEY v JOHN O'DONNELL Following agreement being reached between the parties the above contest to be promoted by Hennessy Sports will take place on 1st November 2008 at a venue as yet to be confirmed. LIGHT WELTERWEIGHT DAVID BARNES (Holder) v COLIN LYNES Following the opening of purse bids by the Chairman at 12.00.noon, Wednesday, 13th August 2008 the winning bid was submitted by Promoter Barry Hearn for the contest to take place at the Everton Park Sports Centre, Liverpool on Friday, 21st November 2008.
