British lightweight champion John Murray has accused Amir Khan of “trying to run before he can walk.”
Khan suffered a shock 54-second knockout at the hands of Breidis Prescott in a fight Murray believes he should have been part of.
In an interview on Setanta Sports News during Steve Bunce's Boxing Hour Murray admitted he wanted to be the one to make Khan hit the canvas.
“He fought a Colombian that nobody knew. He could have fought me and sold that place out with 18,000 people. It could have been me that did that to him.
“He's been talking about fighting people like Ricky Hatton, who's been established as a world class fighter for a number of years, and Floyd Mayweather. He's not ready.”
Murray remains hopeful of fighting Khan in the near future and believes he won't have to wait long before the 2004 Olympic silver medallist calls him out.
“I'm the British champion and he's going to want to rebuild and start again. World titles are out of the question for him at the minute. I think there's a good chance he'll come looking for me now.”
