Prizefighter 2 - go on have a flutter

by The Judge
Sep 12th 2008
When it comes down to it any of the eight heavyweights who are participating in tonight's Prizefighter 2 could end up with the £25K prize.

If the cream rises to the top it should be Chris Burton and Sam Sexton duking it out for the big money but although Burton looks to have an easy first round draw, Sexton the youngest in the tournament has probably got the short straw in drawing the big hitting but weak chinned Pele Reid in the opening fight of the night. I wouldn't be surprised to see Reid fell Sexton at some point and will see if the Norwich man has the heart to match his undoubted skill.

Remember last time out David Dolan was pre-tournament favourite and he almost didn't make it past the first round, when he was bludgeoned by Darren Morgan but saved by the bell when he seemed out on his feet, this time Morgan is meant to have prepared and he's obviously got heavy hands, in his first fight he will face Lee Swaby who has been out in Beijing sparring with the Olympic boys so should be fit and raring to go, I'm going to go for Morgan being too strong for Swaby who will surely be giving away weight to the Welshman.

Dave Ferguson must also have some advantages as he was in the first series of this tournament going out to eventual winner Martin Rogan after beating fan's favourite Billy 'The Pieman' Bessey in the opening round. Ferguson says he has trained harder this time round and with 'home' advantage could be worth a flutter, he will face Sexton or Reid in the semis if he beats Simpkin.

So where I am going to put my money, Burton is probably a worthy favourite but at odds of 5/4 I'll probably resist as he was given a hard test last time out by Swaby, I'm tempted to go for Burton, Reid, Morgan and Ferguson in a yankee to get through the first round, and may have a few quid on Ferguson to win the whole thing at around 6's or maybe I'll back Reid as he's probably been in with the best opposition of the bunch and the shorter distance may suit the Midlander.

Whoever you decide to back tune in on Sky tonight, if your not going to the event itself, as if it's anything like the first one you're guaranteed fireworks and knockdowns galore and even a marching band and dancing girls if you get there early enough.
