Bobby Rimmer phoned BBN to confirm that he has parted company with his fighter Michael Gomez. After discussions the pair came to an amicable parting of the ways. Kevin Maree will now train Gomez.
Gomez and his new trainer will be in action this Sunday on the VIP bill in Colne; Gomez will take part in a four-twos bout against an opponent yet to be confirmed.
Rimmer has worked with Gomez often over the years, they first worked together at The Phoenix camp, and Rimmer also oversaw the recent comeback of the enigmatic fighter.
Early into the comeback, in the fights against Daniel Thorpe and Youssef Al Hamidi, Rimmer identified the missing head movement of Gomez as the biggest challenge facing the team.
Although Gomez, and his reflexes, had fallen heavily into the vale of years Rimmer did manage to get Michael bobbing and weaving well enough for the aging fighter to give Amir Khan a tough ride during their Commonwealth title fight in June. Gomez floored Khan heavily in round two before succumbing to the fast hands of the younger, and bigger, fighter.
Under Rimmer's guidance Gomez also gave Carl Johanneson a torrid fight for Carl's British super-feather title.
Rimmer will continue his work with Brian Rose and Jack Arnfield. Bobby confirmed that he still has a good relationship with Michael, stating also that he wishes Gomez all the best for the future.
