North West Olympic hopeful Joe Murray won a bronze medal today – in the 54 Kg class - at the Romanian Golden Belt tournament after losing on points, in the semi final, to World Bronze medallist Hallab Ali.
Hallab, hailing from France, won the bout on points as his experience told beyond the first round. Murray hoped to use this tournament to glean more experience prior to the World Championships this October in Chicago.
Joe told BBN that the fight with Hallab, as well as the event overall, will hold him in good stead for the Chicago tournament.
Murray also hopes that, in overcoming an opponent from Turkey as well as a world-ranked rival from Korea, he has shown that he can mix it with different levels of opposition.
Joe will now head to Chicago with a further grasp of what is required of him at this level, he will also have a renewed appreciation of his ability to hold his own with a variety of foes.
With renewed confidence fuelling a lack of fear Murray now hopes to go all the way in Chicago.
