The North of England Boxing Awards have been postponed.
The awards, to be run as a benefit night for much-loved Sheffield whip, Lee Gostolo, will take place at a date to be decided in early 2008, probably in Lee's home county of South Yorkshire.
Lee passed away tragically last month as a result of pancreatic cancer.
Dave Hall, who was originally organising the event with Lee and Manchester's Wayne Barker, cited the multitude of sporting distractions that might have jeopardised ticket sales and in turn, dented any funds raised for the Gostolo family.
"There's Ricky Hatton's fight in Las Vegas, Amir Khan in Bolton and the possibility of another big fight in the North-West all the week before the awards. Two other promoters also have shows in December plus Liverpool play Manchester United on the day of the awards. This I'm sure all these factors would affect the corporate sales.
"At the end of the day, I want to make sure that as much money as possible is made for the Gostolo family."
