Calzaghe touches down in Leeds

by Paul Concannon
Nov 12th 2007

Undisputed super-middleweight champion Joe Calzaghe, fresh off an exciting unification victory over Dane Mikkel Kessler, arrives in Leeds this Thursday (15th) as guest of honour at promoters Mark Bateson and Kevin Spratt's four-bout dinner show at Elland Road.

The undefeated Welshman, joined by former WBC super-middleweight champion (and ex-opponent) Richie Woodhall, will provide a huge boost to a show that features local light-middleweight prospect Danny Reynolds, undefeated welterweight Adil Anwar, as well as Clint Johnson and Craig O'Neil, all in separate six-round bouts.

“How often does someone as big as Joe Calzaghe come to Leeds?” asked an excited Bateson, “It will be a bonus having someone on his level attending the show – a real boost to local boxing.”
