Market trader Evans won't stall

Halesowen lightweight Scott Evans looks to advance his unblemished record to two fights when he steps into the ring on First Team's ‘The Mutt Bites Back' show at Walsall's Banks' Stadium on Wednesday night (November 28).

The 19-year-old made a dream start to his paid career by scoring a shut-out four-round decision over Kurdistan-born, Birmingham-based Amir Nadi in Wolverhampton last month and is aiming for a similar victory next week.

Mowhawked Evans, who works 18-hour days with his dad on outdoor markets in the Black Country, said: "I work for my father and enjoy the market life. It's hard work but I've no complaints.

"I loved my pro debut and it was better than I could have possibly imagined. I would not swap this for anything and was happy with my performance against a tough lad in Amir Nadi.

"I'm confident that I can enjoy a good ring career for many years to come,“ continued ticket-selling Scott, the first fighter to turn professional from Halesowen ABC.

"I've really dedicated myself to boxing and I train hard for six days a week at Halesowen ABC's gym with Jay Morris and at the Wednesbury KO gym with Errol Johnson.

“I hope to put in another performance like I did in Wolverhampton when I fight in Walsall next week.”

Promoter PJ Rowson, putting on the first of his two shows in four nights, added: “We were all extremely pleased with Scott's debut win and he should have a bright future in the sport.”

The 9st 9lbs prospect compiled a stellar 19-6 card in the unpaid code, a record that including a loss to Wednesbury stablemate and former NACYP champ Carl Groombridge, and will be back out in a four-rounder.

Former British welterweight champ Young Mutley, 22-3 (12), tops the card in a six-rounder against iron-chinned Ukrainian Vladimir Borovski. Coventry portsider Steve Bendall, 27-3 (14), also goes over six-threes, taking on Ukrainian southpaw Alexander Matviechuk.

West Brom southpaw Wayne Downing, 3-5 (0), meets Brierley Hill's Martin Gordon in a Black Country grudge match, whilst Walsall super-middleweight Matty Hough, 7-2 (1), and Stourbridge's Sam Horton, 6-0 (1), complete the six-fight bill.

Tickets are available from Paul (PJ) Rowson on 07976-283157 or Errol Johnson on 07852-268333.
