Hatton or Mayweather? BBN staff predictions

by Ian McNeilly
Dec 8th 2007

Here are the results of the British jury. Could this be an omen for the fight? Toe to toe and an even bout until Ricky nicks it down the stretch? I, for one, certainly hope so…

Hatton: Mayweather isn't elusive as he once was and I predict Ricky will chop him down in Round 10 or squeak a points win.

Ian ‘Mr' McNeilly

Mayweather: My heart says Hatton, but my head says that Mayweather will be too smart for him and will pull away in the later rounds to win unanimously, but if anyone on the planet can beat Mayweather it'sHatton, and I really hope he does.

Kevin ‘El Supremo Statto' Taylor

Hatton: Mayweather will come out, take centre ring, try his luck as a southpaw only to be pushed back by Hatton who will then weather some rocky storms and win by Split Decision.

Terry ‘Descartes' Dooley

Mayweather: He peppers Hatton with jabs, lefts and rights and covers up expertly under a ferocious attack from the Englishman to claim a unanimous decision.

Tom ‘The Black Country Copy Snatcher' Podmore

Hatton: wins by split decision; two judges prefer his consistent workrate, one goes for Mayweather's picking and poking.

James ‘Ghost Writer' McDonnell

Mayweather: As a fan I'm screaming all night for Ricky, I just feel that the step up in weight combined with Floyd's ability will be too much for the Hitman.

Will ‘The Halestorm' Hale

Hatton: I'm going with my heart for this one, the Pretty Boy will wilt late on because of the intense mid-riff battering he is going to recieve - kill the body, the head will follow.

Jim ‘The Nottinghamshire Nightmare' Wright

Mayweather: The difference will lie in Floyd having fought more people with a style similar to Hatton's than vice versa, allowing him to settle down after a rocky start and pick up a unanimous decision.

Oliver ‘Sub-Zero' Fennell

Hatton: SD as Mayweather isn't unbeatable as some think – Hatton will exert enough pressure on Floyd to force him into his shell to clinch a narrow points win.

Ben ‘The Yorkshire Terrier' Carey

Mayweather: I really want Ricky to do it but i'll chicken out and go for the safe bet by picking Mayweather. Come on Ricky!

Steve ‘The Long Good Friday Agreement' Wellings

Hatton: Can see it being very close, even a draw, but if Hatton sticks to tactics I tip him to win by late stoppage or points decision.

James ‘Interview King' Howard

Mayweather: Fierce Mancunian pride makes the heart screams the Hitman but the head dictates Floyd, he's been there, faced up to the world's best and beaten them all - convincingly.

Mike 'The Mad Manc' Bradley

Hatton: it all hangs on range and if Ricky can superglue Mayweather to his English chest he'll make Mayweather flatter than his record label and send him in a spin to the canvas late on.

Neil ‘Neilicus the Emperor' Holland

Mayweather: Patriotism has meant too many hearts have ruled heads. Ricky is very good Floyd is exceptional and wins on points handily.

'Rampaging' Kev Roberts

Hatton: His focus, determination and conditioning will win it for him on a split points decision over the last three rounds.

Kev ‘The Pen' Parker

Hatton: TKO 11; Part of me thinks I need my head examined, another part of me can't help this sneaking feeling that Ricky's pressure, power, body-punching and above all his unflappable attitude, may just be Mayweather's kryptonite.

Paul ‘The Jeweller' Concannon

Hatton: Ricky will keep Mayweather under constant pressure and win on points.

Geoff ‘Big Lens' Roughton

Hatton - 10

Mayweather - 7
