Rugby's Carl ‘The Hammer' Wright has been involved in an attack that has left him in hospital and his 20-year-old nephew dead.
The 30-year-old Midland Area cruiserweight champion was on a night out in the Warwickshire town with his two nephews, Danny, 22, who is also in hospital with stab wounds, and Kevin, Danny's brother who later died from his injuries, when they were set upon in the early hours of Monday (May 5) morning.
Police have arrested a 28-year-old man from Birmingham on suspicion of the murder of Kevin and attempted murder of the former British Masters champion and Danny.
Both Carl, 14-1-1 (5), who hasn't boxed since knocking out Roland Horvath in two rounds at Rugby's Benn Hall in April 2007 but was in the running for a crack at the vacant British cruiserweight title on June 20, and his nephew are understood to have suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
BBN's thoughts are with the Wright family at this time.
