Saturday the 16th of September sees the 3rd Induction Ceremony into the Scottish Boxing Hall of Fame of a host of well known boxing personalities. The 2006 induction programme is in two parts; the first part with free admission is in the Palace of Art, Bellahouston and is open to the general public from 11.30 a.m; whilst the formal ceremony will take place at the St Andrews Suite in the Holiday Inn, Bothwell Street Glasgow from 7.00 p.m. and is by ticket only.
The open event at the Palace of Art is a “must see and be there” event for all lovers of the sport, but probably more so for all aspirant boxers in the amateur game, since it will give them an opportunity to get up close and personal with some very illustrious Scots boxers who have brought the sport in Scotland to a level where the country continually “punches above it's weight”.
Inductees for 2006 are;
• John McCluskey
• Evan Armstrong
• Drew Docherty
• Jackie Brown
Posthumous awards are to be made to;
• Peter Keenan
• Chic Calderwood
• Tommy Milligan
• Johnny Hill (1st Scottish born “World Champion”)
Special awards in the evening programme are to be made to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the 1956 Melbourne “Olympians”;
• Terry Spinks
• Dick McTaggart
• Tommy Nichols
• Nicky Gargano
• John “Cowboy” McCormack
With autograph/photograph opportunities, memorabilia stalls and a host of other aspects of boxing, this event is worth its weight in gold for anyone who knows the “Sweet Science”.
I can't imagine football offering this opportunity to its followers, can you? So get out and enjoy the company of “real sporting legends” on the 16th.
