Lee McAllister, the “Aberdeen Assassin” has finally got his reward, a crack at a 'world' title bout in his home town of Aberdeen. A formal announcement is to be made later today, however, a very happy Lee McAllister phoned me this afternoon to confirm that he will contest for the WBU Lightweight title in the Beach Ballroom on October the 6th.
His opponent is yet to be nominated, but it will be a very big step up in class indeed for the “Assassin”. This title, once held by Graham Earl, whom Lee had earlier challenged, is just recompense for the likeable Aberdonian, who sells the place out every time he boxes in the venue.
Tickets will be like rocking horse manure for the show and fans would do well to get their requests in quickly, as the only other venue which could have held such a show with the increased demand, the Aberdeen Exhibition & Conference centre had no dates available.
I've been critical of the Ingles in the past for their apparent failure to deliver on behalf of Lee, so on this occasion I have to say, well done! Not only on behalf of the McAllister family but also for the fight fans in the North East of Scotland.
The reduction in capacity will though mean that Lee's share of the purse will undoubtedly be cut, but since he's made similar gestures in the past for the sake of furthering his career, none of which were taken up, I'm sure he'll not lose sleep over that.
