Watch out the “Buddies” Kevin’s taking the strap to you by Tom Walker Jul 23rd 2007

As with a fellow Celt boxing reporter, Gareth Jones of the Western Mail and Echo in Cardiff, your favourite boxing website was “persona non grata” at the Cardiff International Arena on Saturday, probably courtesy of the “gophers”. It beggars belief that these guys think they're doing Sports Network a favour by banning genuine boxing reporters (as opposed to football writers who enjoy a freebie in boxing), but hey ho, I'm bothered not a jot. Sports Network as with any promotional outfit needs publicity, so how does barring people who cover the under card help Frank's cause? In the rightly euphoric atmosphere of a tremendous night for Wales, there was three emphatic wins for their Celtic cousins north of Hadrian's Wall. Alex Arthur of course won the interim version of the world title, Kenny Anderson continued his KO ways with an early stoppage of his opponent Dean Walker, and Kevin McIntyre beat Tony Doherty for the Celtic strap which he intends to take to his “Buddies” in Paisley. Obviously since we weren't there, neither Gareth Jones nor I can give you details of these bouts. However, in a purely parochial sense I'm justifiably pleased for Kevin McIntyre as his victory over ten rounds against a boxer of Doherty's capabilities with a unanimous decision, is a decisive step back into the limelight for the Paisley man! This bodes well for the Braveheart Promotions show in Paisley in September, from which we will be present to report, as no such pettiness permeates these promotions. So well done Frank Warren and his matchmaker for what was undoubtedly a good show, not so his “gophers” (if it is indeed they who have banned us) who've missed a trick, not for the first time and undoubtedly in the future will miss the same thing staring them in the face! As Dominic Behan once prophetically said, ”There's no such thing as bad publicity except your own obituary.”
