Former champ fighting for his life

by Kevin Taylor
Jul 23rd 2007

Former British heavyweight boxing champion James Oyebola is in a critical condition in hospital after being shot at a London club.

The 47-year-old who is manager of Commonwealth champion Ajose Olusegun was shot outside a club in Fulham Road, in the south west of London.

Scotland Yard said the 6' 9" Nigerian, who knocked out Clifton Mitchell to claim the British title in 1994, had been shot in the head and leg.

Officers from Operation Trident, which looks into gun crime in the black community, are said to be investigating.

BBN's thoughts are with James and his family.
