Forest Stars will be out in force to support Froch by Daniel Mole Oct 2nd 2007

Carl Froch will have the support of a number of Nottingham Forest stars when he steps in to the ring to take on Robin Reid next month. The Nottingham-born super-middleweight goes toe-to-toe with Reid in a 12-rounder on 2nd November at the Nottingham Ice Arena. Amongst the anticipated sell-out crowd will be selection of players from Froch's hometown football club as he looks to build on his 21-0-0 record against a fighter who has been in with the likes of Joe Calzaghe and Jeff Lacey. It's a step up in class for Froch but he will be buoyed by the backing of his fellow Nottingham sportsmen. “Carl's a top-class fighter,” Forest's Julian Bennett told BritishBoxing.net. “His record speaks for itself and I'm looking forward to seeing him go up against Reid. “There's normally me, Kris Commons and Wes Morgan who go to watch him. We were there when he beat Sergey Tatevosyan last time out and we'll all be there for this one. “Carl needs to step up and prove to everyone what a good boxer he is. Reid will be a tough opponent but I think Carl has the power and hand speed to beat him.” The 22-year-old defender is well qualified to give his opinion as, despite earning a living as a footballer, he comes from a boxing family. A number of his cousins have all boxed to a decent standard but the jewel in his family's boxing crown is Herol ‘Bomber' Graham. Bomber is seen as one of the greatest post-war British boxers and famously fought for three world titles at both middle and super-middleweight during a professional career that spanned 20 years. “Herrol's my Godmother's son and his exploits were one of the reasons why I got in to boxing,” added Bennett. “He is still talked about today and helped put Nottingham on the map. “Carl is the latest boxer to come out of Nottingham and I'm only too happy to give him my support. “He's flying the flag for the area at the moment and hopefully, he'll still be unbeaten after the Reid fight.”
