BBN Exclusive - Ossie Duran out of Rhodes clash by Ian McNeilly Oct 12th 2007

Ossie Duran is out of his scheduled Saturday clash with Ryan Rhodes after being hit by a car. Duran is reported to have suffered a stress fracture of his leg in the accident which happened in his native Ghana as he was on his way to the airport. This is the latest frustrating incident in the career of Sheffield's Rhodes who had impressed in his recent comeback after some time out with both a back injury and an unrelated head injury caused when he was attacked on a night out in his home town. The Duran withdrawal from the Barnsley Metrodome bill is particularly frustrating as Rhodes had worked hard to get down to the light-middleweight limit of 11st. Promoter Dave Coldwell has drafted in Olufemi Moses to box Rhodes instead.  Moses is a novice pro and has a record of 3-1, having lost on points to Prince Arron last time out (three weeks ago in Coventry). Coldwell argues he had little choice. "Moses is the best I could get at such short notice.  I know he's only a novice but he's got a good amateur pedigree - I've been told he boxed at the Olympics for Nigeria and he won a bronze at the Commonwealth Games. "Ryan is gutted, absolutely gutted and so am I.  But the lad's a true pro and he'll keep his mind on the job and make sure he puts in a good performance." The undercard should produce some fireworks as well supported Maltby lightweight Andrew Ward takes on fellow face-first fighter Gavin Deacon.  Promising bantam Josh Wale also features.
