Matty Hough believes he is in tip-top condition as he steps up preparations ahead of the tenth fight of his professional boxing career.
The Walsall-born Super-Middleweight fights on the undercard of 1st Team Promotions' show at the Banks's Stadium this coming Wednesday, 28th November.
Hough will be in some decent company. Topping the bill is former British title holder, Young Mutley. The West Bromwich welterweight takes on Ukrainian Vladimir Borovski. Also on the bill are the likes of former English champion Steve Bendall and a number of upcoming Midland prospects.
However, Hough is determined to steal the limelight and record the eighth win of his fledgling career.
“I've been training harder than ever for this fight and I'm in great condition,” he said. “To be fair, I feel like I could have the fight now so by the time the fight comes around I'll be in my best ever condition.”
Hough's opponent is Welshmen, Jamie Ambler. Ambler was due to face Burton's Jonjo Finnegan next Tuesday but, after breaking his wrist in a car accident, Finnegan was forced to pull out of that bout.
That paved the way for Hough to step in and it is a fight he is relishing.
“Jamie Ambler is decent,” he admitted. “But I'm confident.
“Mark Phillips, who I beat last time out, is a former British title holder and he beat Jonjo for that title, so I know I can hold my own with Jamie Ambler.
“This will be the first time that I've done six three minute rounds but, like I say, I'm in great shape and ready for it.”
Hough's current record stands at seven wins and two defeats but, after winning his last two bouts, he believes he has learnt from his mistakes and those defeats, coupled with the fact that he is fighting in his hometown, will spur him on to victory.
“Looking at the two fights I lost, not taking anything away from my opponents, I think I lost them more than my opponents won them.
“I didn't take them seriously enough but I've learnt a lot from that and am training harder than I have ever trained before. I have fought twice in the past two months, so this will be my third consecutive month where I'm fighting, which can only be a good thing.
“To be back fighting in Walsall in front of my own fans is a big thing for me. Like every fighter, it helps spur you on when you have family, friends and supporters in the crowd cheering you on.”
“Looking at the rest of the bill there's some cracking fighters on show, so it should be a good night.
“I'm going to keep up my intense training between now and fight night and I'm looking to go in there and try and improve my knock-out ratio.
“I know I've got it in me to hit people hard and I'll be going in there to take Jamie Ambler out.”
