Hough wants Ambler rematch for Masters belt

by Daniel Mole
Dec 6th 2007

Matty Hough has set his sights on a re-match with Jamie Ambler for the British Masters title after the super-middleweight pair battled out a draw at the Banks's Stadium last Wednesday (November 28th).

Hough was disappointed with the decision to score the contest equal and is confident that he can dispose of his counterpart next time out to win the first title of his professional boxing career.

“I thought I beat Ambler fair and square,” said Hough. “I thought he nicked the second round but I thought I took the other three rounds.

“He caught me with a couple of shots but never really hurt me.

“I felt really good. I had a little twinge in my back but other than that I felt really fit.

“I've been training a lot harder and doing a lot more roadwork. I feel stronger for it.”

The Walsall-born puncher gave away 8lb in weight to the Welshman on the night but revealed that, after the contest, Ambler agreed to come down to match Hough's 12-stone frame for a British Masters title fight in the New Year.

“I rocked him a few times and that was with him weighing a lot more than me,” added Hough. “8lb is a massive weight difference, so when we get it on at the same weight I know I can take him out.

“Last week's fight was only over four rounds and I was just warming up when the fight was coming to a close.

“The title fight would be over ten rounds so, with us being at the same weight and over a longer distance, I know I can beat him.

“I know how he boxes now and I'll be ready for him.

“When I first started boxing, I wanted to win titles and now it looks like I'll get the chance to do that.”
