Team Palle, Danish promoters of Martin Kristjansen, have reported that their man will not fight Amir Khan as scheduled on 2nd February.
One's Danish is not as good as it used to be (the report is on the Palle website http://www.teampalle.dk/composite-1551.htm) but it would appear that Kristjansen is citing flu which has resulted in several trips to the bathroom leaving him completely drained of energy and unable to train adequately.
Update - In an email to Bettina Palle, Kristjansen writes:
"I have been running between the toilet and my bed all night. I constantly feel nauseous, my stomach is upset, and I throw up. I can't keep any food inside me, and it's probably a bad case of the flu.
"Ït's impossible for me to train, and I have no energy. I just don't feel I can afford to miss out on days of training as time is already short. I really feel bad to lose this opportunity, and I hope the fight can be postponed so I can get it later. Because I really do want this fight."
Jon Thaxton is likely to be ready and willing to replace the Dane. However, it would be a major shock if this fight went ahead.
Promoters Sports Network pulled Khan from purse bids this week for Thaxton's British and Khan's Commonwealth titles.
I think it would be a really bad idea to fight Thaxton. A fight against Thaxton would draw a great crowd. I believe that Thaxton would beat Khan at the moment too.
A possible fight could be made with Lee Meager, who is ranked 3rd in Britain by a couple of websites. Meager lost to Thaxton on points, so fighting Meager would be a good warm up for the Thaxton fight.
After he has fought Meager it would be nice to see him fight John Murray, unbeaten 23 year old from Manchester. Even though he is only 23 he has some good experience including his last fight in Las Vegas. He is fighting next in April. Murray is currently ranked 6th in the UK.
