British ref gets no change from Noel Edmonds by Ian McNeilly Jan 28th 2008

As previewed on BBN - the undisputed number one website for tracking the television appearances of the least famous British fight figures - referee Shaun Messer made an appearance on Noel Edmonds' tragically successful quiz show 'Deal or No Deal' last Thursday. Unfortunately for the Dudley middleman, he became the 13th member of the show's '1p club' when he walked away with the least lucrative monetary prize in TV land. Messer, whose 'proper job' is as a Station Officer in the Fire service, came across very well on the show and enjoyed shadowboxing in front of the camera every time the producer went to a commercial break. For those who are ignorant of how this groundbreaking TV event works, I can't be bothered to explain.  But let's just say that Shaun was left with a blind toss up between a box containing 1p and a whopping £35,000.  He might have made a few wrong decisions inside the ropes but this is the one that has undoubtedly cost him the most. To be fair to the big man, he took it firmly on the chin and in good spirits. I for one hope this heralds an onslaught of our referees finding temporary homes on Britain's light entertainment shows.  Who wouldn't want to see Mickey Vann on Mastermind (specialist subject - 'Ricky Hatton and the MEN Arena') or Richie Davies on 'Celebrity Masterchef'?
