Alex and Scott can re-run Ken and Jim

by Tom Walker
Feb 7th 2008
Edinburgh's Alex Arthur has not dismissed the possibility of a bout with Scott Harrison in the future.

However, Arthur is rightly focussing all his attention on his upcoming bout with Joan Guzman and not speculating about a potential re-run of the East versus West bout of Buchanan and Watt.

Former stable mates Arthur and Harrison ideally could meet for the WBO super featherweight title, assuming of course that “AAA” overcomes what will be his toughest opponent by far on the 26th April at a venue in Scotland, (presumably either Glasgow or Edinburgh).

Dominican Republic boxer Guzman is regarded by many as being amongst the world's best at the weight and has no qualms about fighting Arthur in his own back yard.

“I do my talking in the ring and I show what I'm made of, The Dominican Republic knows who the real champion is. I will prove to everyone what I already know, that I am the best”

The 29-year-old Edinburgh boxer indicated that a meeting with former world featherweight champion Harrison, from Cambuslang, could take place even if he were to fail in his own mission on the 26th of April.

Arthur said: "A fight between us would be brilliant for Scotland, but I have to put Scott to the back of my mind until I have dealt with Guzman, and Scott comes through all that lies ahead of him."

Of course all of the above assumes that Harrison himself can sort out the peripheral issues of court appearances and the return of his BBBoC licence to which Alex alludes.

There's no doubt that Scott Harrison has changed his lifestyle to return to boxing, and looks fresher than he has in the last two years. Looks though can be deceptive, and meaningful bouts will be a better marker for him in his resurrection Phoenix like from the ashes of what was a very bright career. Like most fight fans in Scotland I hope that the bout can happen and that it will be for the full blown title.
