Chiverton aiming Lowe for Masters belt by David Statham Apr 14th 2008

The clocks may have sprung forward an hour, but time can't keep up with Mansfield's rising light middleweight prospect Karl Chiverton. ‘Chiv', whose only loss in the pro game came to hard hitting Cafu Santos back in December 2004, has won his last eight contests and his performances have already attracted the attention of Frank Maloney.     Maloney recently agreed a five fight deal with Robin Hood's champion Andy Bell and Chiverton and club-mate Alex ‘Pitbull' Spitko have been rewarded places on the promoter's card. And 22-year-old Chiverton didn't disappoint in his first fight on a Maloney promotion. He out-pointed Darwin's Martin Sweeney over four rounds at the Metrodome Leisure Complex in Barnsley on 28th March, taking his record to 9-1.     The slick southpaw will now move his attention to his British Masters title challenge against Newark's Andrew Alan Lowe on May 31st. Lowe could represent the youngster's toughest test to date. The Newark fighter has won six out of seven, and in his last fight he avenged the only loss on his record by beating John Musgrave.         Chiverton's fight for the vacant welterweight title will take place at the Grove Leisure Centre in Newark in what will be a mini ‘homecoming' for the Mansfield man, whose last two fights were in the Midlands. His title fight follows stable mate Andy Bell's victory over super-flyweight champion Chris Edwards and Robin Hood's boss, Matt Scriven, is delighted with the club's progress. Speaking to the Mansfield Chad, Scriven said ‘‘It is all good news. We have put in a lot of hard work down here and that is all coming through now.''
