Woodhouse in action on Saturday by Ian McNeilly May 16th 2008

Curtis Woodhouse faces a new opponent in Sheffield tomorrow night when he tops a Koncrete Promotions bill at the ground of Sheffield United FC, Bramall Lane. Manchester light-middleweight Dave Murray replaces injured Chris Brophy.  Murray, like Woodhouse, is a novice and has a record of 3-2.  He holds points wins over seasoned journeymen Dave Kehoe, Lance Verallo and, most recently last month, Peter Dunn.  His defeats were both by stoppage, by Chris Johnson and Jamie Radford, so this might encourage the 5-0 Woodhouse to go for his third early win. The former 'Blades' midfielder will certainly hope to come past Murray unscathed as he is scheduled to appear on the undercard of Amir Khan v Michael Gomez at Birmingham's NIA on June 21. "As soon as Saturday is out of the way I am taking my family to the seaside for a couple of days and then by Wednesday I'll be back in the gym preparing for the next one" Woodhouse, told his local paper, the Sheffield Star. "It is possible that I will be on live TV on the Khan show so I have to be ready because this is what I want and how I want it," said the 28-year-old. "A lot of people saw my first fight against Dean Marcan-tonio on ITV4, screened because of the novelty of a footballer boxing, but I cringe when I look at that now," he says. "I had originally been trained as a southpaw but Dave Coldwell advised me to go orthodox and I feel so much more comfortable now." Woodhouse has again been helped in training by sparring with the likes of Kell Brook and Ryan Rhodes. "I could never be as elusive as Ryan. If you sparred with him for 45 minutes you'd be lucky to punch him three times, and two would be on the shoulder and one would be on the leg," he said. Also on promoter Coldwell's bill is Andy Butlin, Andrew Ward and promising super-bantamweight, Josh Wale.
