Some Black Country class on show by Daniel Mole May 30th 2008

1st Team Promotions will be showcasing all that is great about Black Country boxing when a host of first-class fighters go toe-to-toe at the Wolverhampton Civic Hall on Friday, 20th June. Titles and undefeated records will be on the line in eight intriguing encounters. Topping the bill is Telford's Mark Lloyd, who takes on Andrew Lowe for the Midland Area welterweight title whilst chief support includes Rob Hunt. Hunt, Stafford's only professional fighter, will be looking to claim a tenth victory in as many outings when he steps in against tough Ghanaian Alex Brew. “Those two fights alone will be cracking contests,” explained 1st Team Promotions spokesman, PJ Rowson. “Mark will be looking to bounce back from his English title defeat at the hands of Adnan Amir earlier this month whilst Brew is the next step up for Rob Hunt, who we're sure will go on to bigger and better things.” The rest of the undercard continues in a Black Country vein with Wolverhampton's Rob Kenney hoping to extend his unbeaten start to life as a professional boxer against Chris Thompson whilst Dudley's Jamie Ball is set to finally make his professional bow. The 24-year-old middleweight was set to appear at the Civic Hall last month but had to pull out at the last minute while he awaited medical clearance. Thankfully for Ball, and his army of fans who were all set to descend on the Civic last time around, this has now come through in time for him to take on veteran Peter Dunn. Two more Wolverhampton-born boxers will also see action as Russell Colley takes on a yet-to-be-announced opponent and Lyndsey Scragg, now rated number two in Europe, will be looking to overcome Agnes Adnogo in order to further increase her stock within the women's game. Completing the feast of Black Country fights is Keiron ‘Slammer' Gray and Steve Saville. Telford's Gray takes on Tony Stones whilst Saville, who has been out of action for a number of years, will have a tough examination on his return to the ring when he takes on the highly-experienced Baz Carey. “It promises to be a great night of boxing,” added Rowson. “We have eight quality bouts on offer and we're really looking forward to showing Midlands fight fans that there is plenty of talent in the local area. “There are some promising youngsters on show along with a number of experienced fighters, so it has all the makings of a real feast of Black Country boxing.” Tickets for the show are available from the Wolverhampton Civic Hall Box Office on 0870 320 7000 or from PJ Rowson on 07976 283 157.
