Earl injured; Limond bout cancelled by British Boxing Jun 9th 2008

Braveheart Promotions have cancelled the show scheduled for Saturday 14th June at Glasgow's SECC. Glasgow's Willie Limond was set to make the first defence of his IBO Intercontinental lightweight title against Graham Earl, but the Lutonian has damaged the fifth metacarpal on his left hand, leaving him with no option but to withdraw. Braveheart Promotions will reschedule Limond-Earl, which will also double as a final eliminator for the IBO world lightweight title, for an autumn date in either August or September. Limond said: “I'm gutted. My eight weeks of hard training has been for nothing. But I realise these things happen and I hope Graham Earl can recover quickly so we can get the fight back on. “A lot of people were looking forward to the fight, but the upside is that I still have my IBO Intercontinental lightweight title and I can still fight a final eliminator later on in the year.” Earl said: “I am very disappointed that I have had to withdraw from the fight with Willie Limond. It is a 50-50 fight and I can't afford to go into it at less than 100 per cent. All it would take is my hand to go and my chances of winning would be severely reduced. “It is really frustrating as I sustained the injury on my last day of hard training before I started to wind my preparations down. I thought I might have broken my left hand during sparring and went for an x-ray, but it turned out to be bruising and there is also a lot of swelling. “I can't afford to go into what is a must win fight for me with any niggles or injuries.” Anyone who purchased tickets for the show can receive a full refund at the point of purchase.
