Michael Gomez has declared himself ‘ready to go to war' against Commonwealth lightweight champion Amir Khan this Saturday at the National Indoor Arena in Birmingham.
Gomez dismissed rumours that Khan's former trainer Oliver Harrison had helped him prepare for the fight.
Speaking to Setanta Sports News during Steve Bunce's Boxing Hour Gomez said: “There was a rumour started by Michael Gomez just to get under his [Khan's] skin. What can Oliver Harrison teach Michael Gomez?
“Nobody can improve me. I'll be staying with my trainer Bobby Rimmer. We want the praise, us, me and Bobby Rimmer, because we're the ones that have done it.”
Gomez goes into the fight as the underdog but is firmly focused on the job in hand, unlike his opponent.
“Amir Khan's talking about after this fight; about Nate Campbell, about Gavin Rees. Michael Gomez is thinking about Amir Khan. And when I stop thinking about Amir Khan, I start thinking about Amir Khan. (This is mental even for Gomez - Ed.)
“June 21st is all that matters, not afterwards. Come June 22nd every household in Great Britain will know the name Michael Gomez.” (But presumably that doesn't matter as it's after June 21st? - Ed.)
